70 changes 'needed to secure the future of our countryside'

IT is nearly two years since the Royal Society of Edinburgh set up a committee to hold an inquiry into the future of Scotland's hills and islands. The move was prompted by fears that changes in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) threatened the viability of Scottish rural communities that rely heavily on farming, and therefore EU subsidies, for survival.
