Several players will be experiencing their first derby on Sunday.

Welcome to the New Firm. It is only four short months since Celtic and Rangers last met but their summer re-structuring programmes could see several changes to the starting line-ups for Sunday's first derby of the season.

A sprinkling of debutants, combined with the re-emergence of players who were on the periphery in April, could make for an unpredictable and intriguing encounter.

Depending on injuries, Gordon Strachan's team could show as many as five changes to the side that won 3-2 at Parkhead towards the end of last season. Barry Robson struck the decisive blow in that game, with a second-half penalty, but the former Dundee United midfielder could miss out on Sunday.

Robson was an unused substitute last weekend against Falkirk and Scott Brown now seems Strachan's favoured option in central midfield.

Lee Naylor is another who will have to be content with a place on the bench in recent weeks. The form of Mark Wilson has been responsible for his demotion and the former Dundee United player should get the nod ahead of Naylor at the weekend.

Glenn Loovens, the club's new centre-half signed from Cardiff City, made his debut against Falkirk and could step into the breach again depending on Gary Caldwell's recovery from injury, while injuries to Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Scott McDonald could mean an entirely new strikeforce.

If that pair fail to recover in time, then Georgios Samaras and Shaun Maloney could renew the partnership they struck up to great effect in the 3-0 victory over Falkirk.

Meanwhile, Walter Smith's side could show as many as six changes. Allan McGregor's injury towards the end of last season saw Neil Alexander deputise for April's clash, but the Rangers No.1 has reclaimed his spot this season. Madjid Bougherra will replace Christian Dailly at centre- half, while Pedro Mendes and Kevin Thomson will patrol central midfield in place of Brahim Hemdani and the injured Barry Ferguson. DaMarcus Beasley could play on the right hand side in place of Steven Whittaker, and Kenny Miller instead of Daniel Cousin in attack.
