In this first programme (parts two and three are aired tomorrow and Thursday), Allsopp presents her guide to creating Christmas decorations. Then there’s the all-important Christmas cake, and once again Queen Kirstie finds herself immersed in coloured icing and glitter as she is reunited with professional cake decorator Mitch Turner before going on the hunt for her Christmas tree with the help of forester Nick Stevens, who has grown firs and spruces for the festive season for 20 years.

With the house starting to take shape, she turns her attentions to designing her own Christmas cards, using the age-old method of lino-printing.

Such is her mounting eco-enthusiasm that she even visits a primary school to teach a class of children how to make stunning salt-dough decorations.

Once the halls are decked and the house is starting to shimmer, she even gets to create her own baubles, with help from glass-blowing buddy Will Shakespeare.

And as if that wasn’t enough, she gets green-fingered as she makes her own Christmas wreath for the front door, all with foliage found in the garden and woodland, proving that you don’t have to hit the high street to create a beautiful Christmas home.
