In for a killing

Filmhouse Cinema in Edinburgh has announced that renowned director William Friedkin will take part in a Q&A after a special screening of his 1971 film The French Connection on June 19. Friedkin, pictured, will be in Edinburgh for the UK premiere of his new film Killer Joe, which will open the Edinburgh International Film Festival gala on June 20. Friedkin won the Academy Award for Best Director for The French Connection but is arguably better known for directing the horror film The Exorcist.

Lloyd Webber award

Kieran McIntosh of Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, has been awarded an Andrew Lloyd Webber (ALW) scholarship from the ALW Foundation. The scholarships are only awarded to applicants who have achieved excellence as part of the audition/selection process. The trustees of the foundation are embarking on an active grant-giving programme of 10 musical theatre scholarships per year, worth £45,000 each.

Cathedral final

Dunblane Cathedral Arts Guild presents the final concert of the season this Saturday. The concert, at the cathedral, will feature harpist and composer Savourna Stevenson with the Stirling area National Youth Choir of Scotland. Stevenson will play French and Spanish music for pedal harp, including Deux Arabesques by Debussy. Stirling NYCoS will perform a selection, including two of the songs Stevenson was commissioned to write for NYCoS.

Cabaret and comedy

The line-up for the Cabaret Club at T in the Park has been announced. It will feature a diverse programme of cabaret, burlesque and comedy. The cabaret club will be open from the Thursday night onwards, with comedy group Frisky and Mannish headlining on the Friday. Other highlights include rock'n'roll burlesque performer Daiquiri Dusk, trapeze artist Vendetta Vain, and hula hoop performer Stakatto Blue. The Stand Comedy Club will host a special comedy hour on the Saturday and Sunday.
