ANNA (Noomi Rapace, below) and her young son are in hiding in a flat outside Oslo from the boy's violent father. Permanently terrified, Anna is placed under further stress when a baby alarm she has bought begins to pick up disturbing sounds. Director Pal Sletaune does well to keep the "is she mad, is she only too sane" debate going for so long, but it's Rapace's nerve-jangling performance that makes for an outstanding psychological thriller.

WHILE the first Streetdance was a nifty little mover, the encore is pure disco dad. Not that there are many old folk around, other than Tom Conti playing a bar owner who might be Spanish or French depending on what day you catch him. Otherwise, the young dancers head off to the continent in search of some Latin inspiration to win a dance contest. The vibe is Cliff and Summer Holiday, but the painful lack of a story and the attempts at acting leave this a film with two left feet.

FROM those clever sorts at Aardman, creators of Wallace and Gromit, comes another jolly animated romp. Hugh Grant, scourge of the tabloids when he's not engaged in this acting lark, is the voice of the Pirate Captain, whose parrot, Polly, turns out to be of interest to Charles Darwin (David Tennant) and science generally. Lots of gorgeous Aardman detail to feast on, lashings of smile-worthy moments, but a tad short on big laughs.
Wrath of the Titans (12)

GREEK mythology may not have credited Perseus with many more adventures after he slew the Medusa and saved Andromeda from the Kraken, but that hasn't stopped Hollywood from creating a "lost myth" to cash in on the soar-away success of Clash of the Titans. Alas, this sequel is every bit as contrived and pointless as this ploy suggests. Set 10 years on, Jonathan Liebesman's film finds Perseus (Sam Worthington) coming out of retirement to save his father Zeus (Liam Neeson) and the world from long-imprisoned Titans. What ensues is a messy mix of rapidly edited, CGI-heavy set pieces that make it hard to see what's going on, and poorly defined characters. The post-conversion 3D is almost as poor as it was first time around.

YOUNG as she is, 13-year-old Marta (Yle Vianello) has a lot going on in her life. Recently moved back to Italy with her family, she's preparing for her confirmation and working out her place in the world. Alice Rohrwacher's coming-of-age drama takes an understated look at a young life in flux. Though beautifully shot and with a lovely performance from Vianello, the subtlety is overdone, leaving the film to meander for long stretches.
