Series One (18)
The good news for fans of this superior French supernatural drama is that Channel 4 has bought the second series. The better news - at least for anyone who missed its terrestrial screening - is that it's now on DVD. To the plot, then: a small French mountain town recently visited by tragedy finds that loved ones who should be dead are reappearing and wanting to pick up their lives again. Or, in the case of one returnee, their murder sprees. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, the soundtrack is by Glasgow's Mogwai.
Plein Soleil (PG)
Nearly 40 years before Anthony Minghella, Jude Law and Matt Damon teamed up to film Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr Ripley, French director Rene Clement had handed Alain Delon his first leading role in his 1960 adaptation of the novel. Delon, at his smouldering best, is the amoral Ripley and Highsmith, along with the rest of the movie-going world, thought him excellent. Plein Soleil (it translates as Full Sun) is released in a digitally restored version.
The Gatekeepers (15)
Oscar-nominated documentary inspired by Errol Morris's The Fog Of War in which director Dror Moreh coaxes extraordinary confessions and observations from six former heads of Shin Bet, Israel's internal security service. Using their words, archive footage and animated sequences, he delves into the story of the Six Day War and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Therese Desqueyroux (15)
Audrey Tatou stars in this 2012 adaptation of Francois Mauriac's 1927 novel about a bourgeois wife whose modernist leanings clash with social conventions. Things take a turn from the dramatic when Therese cooks up a plan for escape. The film screened in competition at last year's Cannes Film Festival and is the last completed work of director Claude Miller, who worked with Jean-Luc Godard and Robert Bresson and was mentored by Francois Truffaut.
