Lars von Trier's two-part film, the third of his so-called "Depression Trilogy" is indulgent, pompous, silly, controversial - there's explicit sex aplenty - and audience-baiting enough to reassure everyone that the Danish director hasn't lost his edge. Stacy Martin and Charlotte Gainsbourg are younger and older versions of central character Joe (the nymphomaniac of the title whose story is told in flashback); the extensive cast list includes Willem Dafoe, Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman and Jamie Bell.
