Horrible Bosses 2 (15)

HHH

Dir: Sean Anders

With: Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston

Runtime: 108 minutes

HAVING pushed the boundaries of bawdiness with the first instalment of the working stiffs strike back comedy, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston and the rest of the crew return. This time they are joined by Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz as ruthless father and son tycoons out to get the little guys. Sean Anders' picture opts for laddish, Hangover-style laughs, and goes near, and past, the knuckle at times. Not for the easily offended, and hit and miss in its humour, but it has its moments, particularly when Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx do their thing as a jailed boss and a criminal consultant.

I Am Ali (PG)

Dir: Clare Lewins

Runtime: 111 minutes

THE Greatest not only had a way with a pair of boxing gloves, he was pretty handy with a tape recorder too. Muhammad Ali's recordings of phone calls to his children and others form the centrepiece of this documentary, but there is much more besides as director Clare Lewins brings together the many parts of the fighter's life, from his bouts in the ring to his political struggles out of it against the Vietnam War and for Civil Rights.

While Ali's life has hardly wanted for coverage down the years, Lewins has a great eye for footage and an ear for a telling anecdote.

A must-see for fans that should introduce a new generation to the legend.

In cinemas, on Blu-Ray, DVD and digital download from tomorrow.

Dir: Dietrich Bruggemann

With: Lea Van Acken, Klaus Michael Kamp

Runtime: 110 minutes

GERMAN director Dietrich Bruggemann's intense drama had its premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival this year and now goes on wider release. It is the tale of Maria, a 14-year-old determined to do her best at school and at home.

But her best, it soon becomes clear, is not enough for her devout mother, and as the pressures increase on Maria something has to give. Lea Van Acken turns in a performance well beyond her years as the teenager pushed to her limits in what is a deeply impressive, if uncomfortable, watch.
