They are the New Wave of Scotland’s film and TV actors.

We’ve put together a list of 50 young stars who’ve already taken their first steps in the profession and are aiming for the heights. They’re all under 30, were born or live in Scotland, and have at least one significant role to their credit already.

  • Age: 25
  • From: Monkton in Ayrshire. She went to Langside College in Glasgow.
  • Credits: Most famous as Amber Murdoch in River City. She has also appeared as Carolyn Fincutter in Illegal Use of Joe Zopp (2008) and Maria in Mausam (2011).
  • Did you know: Lorna was offered the role of Amber when she was 20, straight after finishing college.
  • Name: Catherine Balavage
  • Age: 28
  • From: Lanarkshire
  • Credits: Most famous as Rosemary Lewes in River City. She has also appeared as a suffragette in Downton Abbey (2010) and the girl in the cafe in Hugo (2011).
  • Did you know: Catherine has a mixture of Scottish, English, Italian and Lithuanian heritage.
  • Name: Peigi Barker
  • Age: 10
  • From: Inverness
  • Credits: Most famous as young Merida in hit Pixar film Brave (2012).
  • Did you know: Peigi's mum is the Mod gold medallist, professional singer and composer who performs as Eilidh MacKenzie.
  • Name: Sean Biggerstaff
  • Age: 29
  • From: Glasgow
  • Credits: Most famous as Gryffindor Quidditch captain Oliver Wood in Harry Potter films. Made acting debut in The Crow Road in 1996. Has also appeared  in Consenting Adults (2007) and Garrow's Law (2009).
  • Did you know: Sean will appear in Mary, Queen of Scots in 2013.
  • Name: Kate Bracken
  • Age: 22
  • From: Fort William. Graduate of Motherwell College.
  • Credits: Most famous as Alex in Being Human (2012). She has also appeared as Mia Adler in New Tricks and Hazel Holdaway in Inspector George Gently.
  • Did you know: Kate originally signed up to only appear in three episodes of cult horror series Being Human.
  • Name: Paul Brannigan
  • Age: 25
  • From: Glasgow
  • Credits: Most famous as Robbie in The Angels’ Share (2012). He also appeared as Andrew in Under the Skin in 2012.
  • Did you know: Paul had ambitions of becoming a footballer when he was growing up.
