It’s honours shared as Richard Thompson OBE plays Celtic Connections Recognition for a career in folk music is long overdue

His name was easy to overlook amid all those quango heads and retired academics, but there it was: Richard Thompson, “folk musician and songwriter”, for services to music, the Order of the British Empire, officer rank.

The OBE given to Annie Lennox for her charitable work may have made the headlines, but Thompson’s many fans will have taken genuine pleasure at his award.
