Sound of cafe society

Arthur Jeffes’s reactivation of his father’s Penguin Café Orchestra concept has come a long way in a short time, both in musical and drawing power terms.

As recently as the Edinburgh Fringe 2009, Penguin Café (they’ve had to drop the “Orchestra” for various reasons) were sounding tentative and a mite ragged as they played to less than inspiring houses at the Queen’s Hall.
