People across the world will be doing their bit for the environment on Saturday when they mark Earth Hour.

The event organised by the World Wildlife Foundation encourages people to turn off their lights for an hour and reflect on our planet's future.

To help you prepare, here are 10 tracks about saving the environment.

Crazy Horses

The Osmonds

Released in 1972, this track is a protest song about the amount of pollution created by cars. The song was originally banned in South Africa where horses is a slang term for heroin.

Big Yellow Taxi

Joni Mitchell

Written and recorded by Mitchell in 1970, this track is about taking things for granted and then missing them when they're gone. Mitchell included a revised version of the song on her 2007 album Shine.

Mother Earth (Natural Anthem)

Neil Young and Crazy Horse

This track appeared on Young's 19th studio album, his sixth with Crazy Horse. It was the only song on the album to be recorded at the Hoosier Dome, the rest were played at Plywood Digital, Woodside.

Don't Kill the Whale

Yes

This track is taken from the band's ninth studio album, Tormato. It is the last studio album to feature singer Jon Anderson and keyboard player Rick Wakeman in the band before Yes disbanded in 1981.

This Land is Your Land

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Originally called God Blessed America, this track was written in 1940 by Woody Guthrie as a parody of Irving Berlin's song God Bless America. Guthrie got the melody from a Carter Family tune.

Time is Ticking Out

The Cranberries

Taken from the band's fifth studio album Wake Up and Smell the Coffee, this track deals with environmental issues. Its video features the band as modern day Wizard of Oz characters.

Plastic Beach

Gorillaz featuring Mick Jones and Paul Simonon

This track is taken from the band's third album Plastic Beach. The album was conceived from an unfinished Gorillaz project called Carousel and was recorded between June 2008 and November 2009.

Monkey Gone to Heaven

Pixies

Taken from the band's 1989 album Doolittle, this track deals with the destruction of the ocean and the confusion of man's place in the universe. It is the first Pixies song to feature guest musicians.

Earth Song

Michael Jackson

This track was originally written by Jackson for the Dangerous album, however, it failed to make the cut. It was the last track rehearsed by Jackson on June 24 2009, making it the final song he ever performed.

4 Minutes

Madonna featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland

Taken from her 11th studio album Hard Candy,  the track is about how people can have fun while trying to save the planet. Madonna said it was inspired by the documentary I Am Because We Are.
