It's somehow typical of the late Gordon Duncan that his heroes as a teenager included the Edinburgh City Police Pipe Band and the Bothy Band's uilleann piping marvel Paddy Keenan, the one being the epitome of musical discipline, the other being one of traditional music's finest examples of dare-devilry.
