The appearance of Portuguese pianist Maria Joao Pires with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at Glasgow's City Halls on Friday kicks off a 10-day series of concerts under the banner The Piano.

l Oxana Shevchenko, winner of the 2010 Scottish International Piano Competition, Sunday.
l Richard Goode plays late Beethoven sonatas, Sunday.
l Dan Tepfer plays Bach's Goldberg Variations and then with his jazz trio, November 20 and 21.
l Alasdair Beatson and the SCO play music for the movies by Nyman and Glass, November 23.
l Daniil Trifonov, a sensation at the Edinburgh Festival this year, plays Scriabin, Liszt and Chopin, November 24.
l Elisabeth Leonskaja plays late Schubert Sonatas, November 25.
