New funding supports jazz touring circuit

Jazz Scotland, the organization behind Aberdeen, Dundee, Fife, Islay, and Lockerbie jazz festivals, has announced a touring programme starting next month that will feature musicians from the U.S. and Scotland and cover the country from Dumfries to Aberdeen. Saxophonist Ravi Coltrane appears in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy with his American band in a double bill with Scottish saxophonist Konrad Wiszniewski's New Focus Quartet. New York-based, Fife-born saxophonist Joe Temperley plays a series of duo dates with pianist Brian Kellock, and Glasgow collective Fat-Suit and trumpeter Colin Steele's award-winning quintet also tour. Additional, one-off concerts featuring the farewell appearance of Edinburgh favourites Fat Sam's Band and rhythm and blues singer-pianist Davina and the Vagabonds have also been announced for Edinburgh. The promotions are being made possible with funding from Creative Scotland.

Late night shows at City of Music Studio

Glasgow Royal Concert Hall's newly refurbished City of Music Studio hosts a series of Saturday late-night jazz concerts during February and March. Classic jazz specialists the Nova Scotia Jazz Band open the series on February 21, with bassist Brodie Jarvie's septet following on February 28. Saxophone and piano duo Tommy Smith & Brian Kellock appear on March 14 and saxophonist Konrad Wisznieski and pianist Euan Stevenson's New Focus Quartet completes the series on March 28.

Lunchtime sessions in Dundee

The popular Sunday lunchtime jazz sessions at Clarks Bar in Dundee go into their third year with a new start time. From this Sunday, the sessions will begin at 2pm. Entry is still free and as well as the resident pool of local musicians, occasional guests are scheduled to appear. Aberdeen-based singer Mary Mac will be February's guest on Sunday 8th and further announcements will be made in due course.
