The Ceilidh Place in Ullapool has announced a busy programme of musical events for the summer, beginning with Herald Angel-winning fiddle and harp duo, Chris Stout & Catriona McKay on Thursday, May 14.

Popular gypsy music proponents the Budapest Café Orchestra, folk bands Breabach, Barluath and Shooglenifty, Gaelic rocker Willie Campbell, and jazz acts, Trio Red led by drummer Tom Bancroft (pictured) and saxophone-piano duo Tommy Smith & Brian Kellock are among those also due to appear in the Highland venue between May and August.

Edinburgh-based folk duo Gillespie & Wolfe launch their debut album, Grace Pour Down, at the capital's Roxy venue on Saturday May 16. The two musicians - singer-guitarist Sam Gillespie and singer-fiddler Becka Wolfe - got together in 2013 and have been working since then on the Edinburgh pub folk sessions circuit, including long-established folk hostelry Sandy Bell's, building a repertoire of traditional and original songs. The album focuses entirely on their own songwriting and their launch night will feature guests including clarsach player Siannie Moodie.

The popular Sunday afternoon jazz residency in Clark's Bar in Dundee continues through May with the core group of regular musicians being joined in the city centre hostelry by special guests, saxophone and trumpet-playing brothers, Tony and Jason Sellars and their band on May 10. The sessions run from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.

Algerian-born guitarist Pierre Bensusan plays two dates in Scotland on his latest visit to the UK. Bensusan, whose music reflects his origins in North Africa and his family's Sephardic background and whose admirers extend from the late acoustic guitar pioneer Michael Hedges to rock guitar virtuoso Steve Vai, appears at Milngavie Folk Club on June 6 and the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh on June 8.
