Stirling's Tolbooth venue hosts a weekend of showcase performances on May 9 and 10 that resents half a dozen of Scotland's top musical acts for the benefit of of promoters from abroad.

The concerts, which start at 8pm are part of The Visit, which this year welcomes guests from France and northern Europe to enjoy some of Scotland's best in the nation's best venues, and are also open to the public, with a weekend ticket for the two triple-bills just £20, and day tickets priced at £12.

Saturday's programme starts with the Rua MacMillan Trio, followed by former Astrid frontman Willie Campbell, with Shooglenifty headlining. On Sunday the programme is Mairearad and Anna (Massie), Mull singer-songwriter Sorren Maclean and Radio 2 Folk Awards Singer of the Year Bella Hardy.

The annual summer exhibition of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists opens today at Stirling's Smith Art Gallery and Museum and runs to June 18. The society which was established in 1882 as the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists includes many members who either hail from or are resident in Stirlingshire, including vice-president Rosanne Barr, who was educated at Balfron High School and whose The Sky Is Clearing (pictured) is included in the show. She will be demonstrating her technique with water-soluble oils at the gallery on the afternoon of Friday May 15 as part of the Festival of Museums.

The exhibition features sculptures, ceramics, textiles and jewellery, as well as paintings in oil, watercolour and acrylics. All of the work is for sale. The Stirling Smith is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 5pm and on Sundays from 2pm to 5pm.
