ON June 12 and 13 Stirling will host the first ever National Busking Festival and National Busking Awards.

After an opening night party indoors at Cowane's Hospital on Friday evening, the action moves on to the city streets from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, with the public invited to vote for their favourites and help them win cash prizes. The Awards will be made at 10pm that night, at a club night for which tickets are available from the website. Registration to take part is free.

One of the 16 acts to perform on the T-Break Stage at last year's T in The Park 2014, Scottish female quartet Teen Canteen (pictured) have been working on their debut album following two acclaimed singles. On Saturday at Summerhall in Edinburgh they present The Girl Effect, an evening of music in aid of Scottish Women's Aid.

Alongside them on the bill are Broken Records, Machines in Heaven, Solar Eye of Stanley Odd, Eugene Kelly of The Vaselines and Duglas T Stewart of BMX Bandits. All the music will be cover versions of girl group songs, the pressing question being who might be brave enough to tackle Teen Canteen's Honey or You're Still Mine. Lap slide guitar specialist Martin Harley makes a one-off Scottish appearance when he plays Inchyra Arts Club, near Perth, on Thursday, May 14. The Welsh-born Harley, who holds the record for playing the highest gig in the world (21,000 feet up Kala Patthar in the Himalayas) and once played a 'Blues Gone Green' concert tour of the UK, cycling 1200 miles over thirty-one days, recorded his latest album, Mojo Fix, in Texas with musicians including former Santana and Steve Winwood drummer Walfredo Reyes.

Long established Glasgow art-pop band A Band Called Quinn, fronted by Louise Quinn, featured on Liz Hurley-starring E! channel subversion of the Windsor clan, The Royals. The group's track DIY, from the Sun Moon Stars album, was the soundtrack opening to the 6th episode of the series, which has been widely acclaimed for its tackiness. The band's upcoming single, Drive With Your Eyes Closed, called from their own soundtrack to the stage show Biding Time (Remix) has already been featured on BBC Radio 6 Music by Tom Robinson.
