Back on the road
1980s rock band Marillion, pictured, are back with a new UK tour this autumn, including a date at Edinburgh's HMV Picturehouse on September 11. The band is currently in the studio recording their 17th studio album, which is slated for release later this year. With original lead singer Fish departing the band in 1988, the current line-up includes Steve Hogarth, Steve Rothery, Mark Kelly, Pete Trewavas and Ian Mosley.

Inspired setting
The Tighnabruaich Gallery has created a new pop-up gallery in an old Boat Shed at the recently opened Caol Ruadh Sculpture Garden in Colintraive, Argyll. Argyll-based artist Freda Waldapfel is the Boat House's first artist in residence, and will work in the shed as visitors drop by. Waldapfel will draw inspiration from her surroundings on the shores of the Kyles of Bute.

Celebrate local culture
The community of Assynt in north-west Sutherland will welcome visitors for the first Assynt Festival, from October 3-10. The event will celebrate local culture and heritage with music, food, arts and crafts.

Diary date
Dundee Rep Ensemble will perform the acclaimed play The Mill Lavvies from August 30–September 29 at Dundee Rep Theatre. The play, by Chris Rattray with original songs by Michael Marra, was first performed at Dundee Rep Theatre in 1998. Set in the early 1960s in a jute mill, the story follows the lives of five workers.

New venue
Glasgow gig venue The Captain's Rest has closed, with PCL citing repair costs and licensing concerns for the closure. The last gig in the venue took place on July 29. Organisers have announced they are to locate to a new home in Glasgow city centre next month, to be announced. Bands confirmed to perform in the new space include Torche, The Invisible, Hooded Fang and Two Wounded Birds.

Just signed
Chemikal Underground has signed Glasgow-based band Conquering Animal Sound. The band will be releasing their follow-up to Kammerspiel, which was shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award, at the beginning of next year. The band has recently finished recording the new album, On Floating Bodies, with Paul Savage at Chem 19.
