l Canada's own prairie balladeer Scott Cook makes his first trip to Scotland this week, playing gigs at Leith Folk Club on Tuesday, The Crown Inn, Biggar, on Thursday and The Vagabond Social Club, Glasgow on Friday.

Cook's tours have taken him across Canada, the US and Asia and his latest album, Moonlit Rambles, has been likened to "a conversational bottle of Jack Daniel's being passed around a campfire".

l The National Theatre of Scotland and The Arches, in association with Govanhill Baths Community Trust, will present Lifeguard at Govanhill Baths from October 5 to 27. A multi-sensory theatrical experience about human beings and their relationship to water, will take place in the disused teaching pool. An exhibition, Water Water Everywhere, is on show at the baths throughout October. It has been created by local primary schools and the Govanhill Voices community choir, working with the National Theatre of Scotland.
