l The Edinburgh Quartet will open their 2012/13 concert season on October 3 at The Queen's Hall in the capital.
The programme includes works by Haydn, Britten and Mendelssohn and the concert will be preceded by a talk at 6.30pm. The season also includes two evening performances in Aberdeen and two Rush Hour concerts at St George's West Church, which will include readings.

l contemporary music ensemble Red Note are asking people to record and email clips of their favourite noises until Saturday as part of Social Media Week. All of the mp3 sound clips will be uploaded onto a soundcloud to create a piece of new music. The aim of the project is to showcase the noises that reflect lives in the digital age.

l The National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh hosts the latest of its RBS Museum Lates: Behind the Masque on October 19. This will be a modern take on a Masquerade and visitors will be encouraged to wear masks or take inspiration from the museum's collections to design their own on the night. The event – linked with the museum's exhibition Catherine the Great: An Enlightened Empress, which closes on October 21 – will feature bands, installations and performers.

l Perth-based band We Came From Wolves are playing a special free gig tonight at Stereo in Glasgow to launch their new EP. They will be supported by The King Hats, Whigs and Rakes and Copper Lungs.
