l John Cale, one of the founding members of the Velvet Underground, is playing the HMV Picturehouse in Edinburgh tomorrow.

He has recorded 30 solo albums since, and has just released his most recent effort, Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood, on Domino Records.

l Bagpipe band Bags of Rock play gigs at the O2 ABC Glasgow this Saturday and the Doghouse in Dundee on October 31. The band's speciality is pop and rock covers with added bagpipe sounds.


l Inverness County Centre for the Arts is hosting an exhibition of the work of Steve Brooks until October 22. Colorful Characters, includes imaginary portraits and landscapes with a selection of illustrations from two graphic novels, The Two Wives Adventure in Mexico and The Two Husbands Adventure.


l Chicago returns to Glasgow's King's Theatre from November 19 to 24. The cast includes Ali Bastion as Roxie Hart and Stefan Booth as Billy Flynn, both familiar faces from television's Hollyoaks and The Bill. Playing Mama Morton is the Nolan Sisters' lead singer, Bernie.
