ARTS NEWS

l THE National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland is part of a Scottish mini invasion of London Jazz Festival in November.

The culmination of its 20th anniversary year, the band will welcome back the guest conductor from their summer tour, trombonist and composer (and member of both the Peatbog Faeries and the Unusual Suspects) Rick Taylor, whose compositions for the band included work tailored to the skills of some particular players in the current line-up. The youngsters will be appearing at the Barbican on November 18 in the wake of organ trio Breach (Spice of Life, November 9) and Konrad Wiszniewski & Euan Burton's acclaimed New Focus nonet (Pizza Express Jazz Club, November 13).
