l Piper Fred Morrison, whose trio has been nominated for the Live Act of the Year title at this year's Scots Trad Music Awards, undertakes a 17-date tour with guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Matheu Watson starting in Comrie on November 22, then going to Stornoway, Ullapool, Inverness, Edinburgh, Stirling and the College of Piping, Glasgow.

l The Overt Gallery in Newmilns, Ayrshire, was established by artist Leala Neil seven years ago and now has painters, jewellery-makers and craftspeople on its books. This evening, from 6pm to 9pm, it marks that anniversary with the opening of a new show of art and crafts.

l O'Hooley & Tidow, voted top act at this year's Cambridge Folk Festival, make their Scottish debut next month to promote album The Fragile with dates at Montrose Folk Club (December 4), Falkirk Folk Club (December 6) and @42, Edinburgh (December 7). Brenda O'Hooley was formerly pianist with Geordie folkstrels The Unthanks and will be returning to Scotland in January to play at Celtic Connections with Nic Jones.

l Graham Robb, the Birnam-based composer whose debut at Carnegie Hall, New York, was reported here in August, has returned bearing good news. After the dress rehearsal for his trial operetta, the Dean of the music school at Brooklyn College introduced himself to Robb and offered to present the world premiere of the work next summer. Negotiations are under way for the performance, likely to be broadcast on cable television, with performance possibilities also under discussion with the Nevada Opera Company and Panama Opera House.
