l SCOTS stars Amy MacDonald and Eddi Reader will feature on a live tribute album to Kirsty MacColl, to be released on February 18.
MacDonald performs a solo version of Tread Lightly and duets with Dave Duffy on Fairytale Of New York, while Reader partners with Boo Hewerdine on Dear John. The three songs are taken from a show that took place at the Shepherds Bush Empire in October 2010 to mark the 10th anniversary of MacColl's tragic death. Other acts contributing to A Concert For Kirsty MacColl include Ellie Goulding, Alison Moyet, Andrea Corr, Brian Kennedy and Phill Jupitus (who performs There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis).
l SEMI-STAGED rehearsed readings of a clutch of new short plays from writers including Morna Pearson and Catherine Grosvenor are the substance of the Village Pub Theatre's Do They Know It's Christmas? at Leith's Village pub in South Fort Street on Friday, December 21 and Saturday, December 22 from 8pm (tickets £3 on the door). The performances will be served with home baking and, on Sunday, December 23, the art is dispensed with in favour of full-on partying.

l GLASGOW'S harmonica player to the stars, Fraser Speirs, has released an album, Red Shoes & Blues, with English country blues and ragtime guitarist-singer-songwriter Eddie Walker in time to reach blues aficionados' Christmas stockings. Speirs, whose moothie has graced hits and gigs by Paolo Nutini, Rab Noakes, jazz singer Carol Kidd and the late blues growler Tam White, features alongside Walker on 12 tracks. These include blues standards Candy Man and Hesitation Blues as well as Hank Williams's You Win Again, the Buddy Holly hit It Doesn't Matter Anymore and possibly the first mention in a blues song of Bruce Forsyth and Lionel Blair on Walker's Red Shoes On My Feet.
