l RACHEL Sermanni, the 21-year-old Carrbridge singer-songwriter, is releasing her version of Robert Burns' Ae Fond Kiss as a charity single on January 25 so that it can be played by swift shoppers at Burns Nights across the land.

Sermanni, who released her debut album Under Mountains last year, has featured a spare reading of the romantic lyric in her live set, and her studio version of it will be released by Middle of Nowhere Recordings. All profits from the sale of the single will go to Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland. Sermanni has forthcoming dates at Aberdeen's Lemon Tree, The Ironworks in Inverness, and at Orkney Folk Festival in May.

l DUNBAR-BORN environmentalist John Muir is the link between two artists from Scotland and two from China who will be exhibiting in St Andrews Museum under the auspices of Fife Contemporary Art and Craft from January 19. Steep Trails is the title of a book of Muir's writings, first published in 1918, and also of the exhibition, which will include facsimiles of his drawings. The bulk of the show, however, has been created by Jonathan Owen and Graeme Todd from Scotland and Rania Ho and Wang Xieda from China following exchange visits that saw the Chinese artists come to St Andrews and become the first residents of the new Bill Scott Sculpture Centre in Edinburgh and Owen and Todd travel to Shanghai, Beijing and the Mongolian Mountains. The show includes drawings, design, sculpture and paintings and wil run to March 3. www.fcac.co.uk
