ARTS NEWS

l ONE of the star turns at this year's Celtic Connections festival, Bank of Scotland Herald Angel winners the New Rope String Band, make a swift return to Scotland in March.

The trio, whose fiddling "ping-pong" match stole the show at Celtic Connections' opening concert, staged a sold-out performance at the Tron Theatre before heading off to Finland, France and the Netherlands in January.

They bring their first-rate musicianship, slap-stick humour and interactive multi-media sketches to Harbour Arts Centre, Irvine on March 10, Leith Folk Club (12), Sunart Centre, Strontian (13), Aros Centre, Portree (14), Brookfield Village Hall, Renfrewshire (15), Heart of Hawick (16) and Biggar Corn Exchange (17).
