l ONE of the star turns at this year's Celtic Connections festival, Bank of Scotland Herald Angel winners the New Rope String Band, make a swift return to Scotland in March.

The trio, whose fiddling "ping-pong" match stole the show at Celtic Connections' opening concert, staged a sold-out performance at the Tron Theatre before heading off to Finland, France and the Netherlands in January.

They bring their first-rate musicianship, slap-stick humour and interactive multi-media sketches to Harbour Arts Centre, Irvine on March 10, Leith Folk Club (12), Sunart Centre, Strontian (13), Aros Centre, Portree (14), Brookfield Village Hall, Renfrewshire (15), Heart of Hawick (16) and Biggar Corn Exchange (17).

l AN error in transmission caused the dates for The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra's tour with their special guest, trumpeter Paolo Fresu to appear incorrectly in yesterday's Herald arts section. The tour begins tonight at Caird Hall, Dundee then continues at Queen's Hall, Edinburgh on Friday, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on Saturday, and MacRobert Arts Centre, Stirling on Sunday.
