Enjoy the jazz aboard ship with a Vieux
Dundee's jazz scene continues to blossom, with the popular Sunday afternoon sessions in Clarks Bar, Lindsay Street, keeping a regular pool of local musicians in the swing and monthly concerts on HM Frigate Unicorn bringing bands from out of the city to entertain a growing audience of enthusiasts.
The next attraction aboard this venerable warship is Edinburgh-based Vieux Carre, whose performances bring alive the early Hot Jazz style and upbeat songs from Tin Pan Alley and who appear on Friday, October 11.
Harper to start Scottish tour
Herald Angel-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist Nick Harper has a tour of Scotland next month to coincide with the release of his latest album, Riven.
It opens at the Glad Cafe in Shawlands, Glasgow, on October 11 and continues with concerts in Arbroath, Dundee, Carbost on the Isle of Skye, Inverness, Eurocentral and Edinburgh.
Winning pictures go on display
The Auld Kirk Museum at Kirkintilloch hosts the annual East Dunbartonshire Photographic Competition Exhibition from tomorrow until the end of October.
Professional photographer John McPake was the judge of this year's contest, for which the four categories were Architecture, People, Nature, and Landscape.
The Gillespie of Lenzie trophy for Overall Best Print was won by Robert Fulton, who also took the Landscape category. Dugald Bell won the Architecture class, Ian Finlayson the People category and Clive Turner won Nature.
The under-18 award-winner was Shona McLennaghan for Canal Bridge and the Community Council prize went to Neil Macgregor for Osprey With Catch.
