Virtuoso returns to crucial venue in granite city

NORWEGIAN double bass virtuoso Arild Andersen returns to the venue that gave birth to his internationally acclaimed trio on his imminent Scottish tour.

In 2005, Andersen was commissioned by the Norwegian Consul in Aberdeen, Keith MacRae, to write a suite in celebration of the centenary of Norway's independence from Sweden.

The piece, performed by Andersen and Scottish saxophonist Tommy Smith at the Granite City's Blue Lamp, went on to feature on Andersen's award-winning album for the prestigious ECM Records label, Live At Bellevue, with drummer Paolo Vinaccia joining Andersen and Smith in what has been hailed as one of the finest jazz groups on the world jazz scene.

The trio play the Blue Lamp on Thursday, November 14, and have gigs at Tolbooth, Stirling, on Tuesday, November 12 and Queen's Hall, Edinburgh, on Wednesday, November 13.
