Music society to show Walton's Facade

HELENSBURGH Music Society's January concert in the town's Victoria Halls is a performance of William Walton's Facade, "an entertainment for reciters and ensemble", on Saturday January 18 at 7.45pm. Using poetry by Edith Sitwell, which will be recited by actors Joanna Tope and Crawford Logan, Walton's suite includes pastiches of other composers as well as genres including hornpipe and tango. It is played by the Auricle Ensemble, a sextet of flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, cello and percussion, conducted by Cristopher Swaffer.

Tenor to sing Handel oratorio

NICOLAS Mulroy, the English tenor well known to Scottish audiences for his performances with John Butt and the Dunedin Consort, is one of the star soloists at the Valetta International Baroque Festival, which starts today. Mulroy will be singing Handel's Messiah
