New airline playlist ready for take-off

CELTIC Connections hit act The Gloaming and top African attractions Salif Keita, above, Angélique Kidjo, and Femi Kuti will be on British Airways' in-flight playlist when a new content partnership between the airline and Songlines magazine takes effect on March 1. Tracks chosen by Sir Mick Jagger and Rufus Wainwright are among the first to feature as British Airways taps into the magazine's expertise with the aim of improving customers' travel experience. Scottish traditional musicians, whose work is regularly reviewed in Songlines, could feature in future playlists as a result.

Rare date for titan Bancroft

SCOTTISH tenor saxophone titan Phil Bancroft plays a rare live date at Dundee's popular weekly Clarks Bar Sunday lunchtime jazz session on March 2. Bancroft has been concentrating on the East Lothian-based company he runs with his twin brother, Tom, ABC Creative Music, in recent times at the expense of his live jazz activities. ABC specialises in developing creative music resources for primary, early years and SEN teachers and is the recipient of this month's Scottish Culture Online Business Limelight Award.

JD Fergusson works on show

AUCTION house Lyon & Turnbull will host an exhibition featuring a selection of paintings and sculptures by the Scottish Colourist John Duncan Fergusson at its Glasgow office.

The works come from a number of private Scottish collections, together with some works coming up for sale at Lyon & Turnbull's Scottish Paintings and Sculpture Sale on May 22. Featured paintings include At the Dinner Table and significant portrait Mademoiselle Cassavetes, painted in 1938, which is valued at between £20,000 and £30,000.
