Northern Roots festival gets award
Northern Roots Events, the organisers of this weekend's North Roots festival in Inverness, are the latest recipients of Hands Up for Trad's Business Limelight Award, the monthly award that recognises outstanding contributions made by businesses and organisations who shape and influence the arts and cultural sector in Scotland today.
As well as this weekend's festival the company, which is run by fiddler and broadcaster Bruce MacGregor and his partner, Yvonne Murray, coordinates Inverness Whisky Festival, indie band and ale showcase Brew at the Bog, the week-long musical school Blazin in Beauly, and the tourist-friendly food, whisky, music, song and dance experience Scottish Showtime at their home at Bogbain Farm

Ukulele for team building
The ukulele has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years, even being considered cool in some quarters instead of struggling to be taken seriously as a musical instrument.
Now it's being touted as an important ingredient in corporate team-building.
Lorraine Bow, who has taught thousands of ukulele pupils, has scored successes with Google, Comic Relief and the organising committee of the London Olympic Games through her Musivate plan that has proven that colleagues having fun making music together can lead to greater business effectiveness and profitability.

John Doyle in Skye concert
Sunday's Skye concert by singer-guitarist John Doyle, is now at The Stables at Clan Donald.
His Scottish tour then continues to Crafts & Things, Glencoe village on Monday and concludes at The Old Hairdressers in Glasgow's Renfield Lane on Tuesday.
He's at Edinburgh Queen's Hall tonight and Glenuig Hall, Moidart tomorrow.
