Final session for Playtime jazz until new year

EDINBURGH'S Playtime jazz project stages its final session of 2014 when saxophonist Phil Bancroft joins the core Playtime quartet of Martin Kershaw (saxophones), Graeme Stephen (guitar), Brodie Jarvie (bass), and Tom Bancroft (drums) on Thursday, December 4.

The Playtime sessions began in the loft of the Outhouse in Broughton Street Lane in March this year to give a regular platform for new compositions and adventurous musical partnerships. A broad spectrum of guests has included visitors from as far away as Ghana and the organisers staged a successful first Fringe season in August that contributed to the Outhouse winning a Herald Angel award for presenting musical excellence.

"The Outhouse's loft has been a great place to play from the musicians' point of view," says Martin Kershaw, "and the feedback from audiences suggests that its intimate atmosphere and the informal presentation have made the sessions a good listening experience too."

The Playtime team plan to be back in the Outhouse in the new year and will be announcing programme dates and details soon.
