Apache Sun

Five Track EP

Electric Honey

There are doubtless many Belle and Sebastian fans out there in the wider world who believe that the band's much sought-after vinyl debut album, Tigermilk, is the sole output of Glasgow Electric Honey label. Although the name of the college where it is based has changed from Stow to Glasgow Kelvin, the student-run label is busier than ever, with releases in recent months from Schnarff Schnarff and Finn LeMarinel as well as this highly accomplished home-recorded debut from brothers Kris Mitchell and Pete Bruce.

All three bands featured in the label's West End Festival showcase at Glasgow's Oran Mor last Friday, and the student entrepreneurs are also promoting one of the Magners Summer Nights at Kelvingrove Bandstand in August with We Were Promised Jetpacks, Fatherson, and Woodenbox on the bill.

Apache Sun continue Glasgow's fine tradition of garage rock'n'roll, although the duo hail from Aberdeen, and the EP is a swift follow-up to their Silhouettes/My Everything debut single. Three of the five songs are absolute crackers: the surf pop Third Call that opens the disc, the moody JAMC-line The Rain That Never Came (for which there is a fine video) and the down and dirty Club Noir. Back Apache Sun to follow Biffy Clyro, Snow Patrol and B&S on the path to success from Electric Honey.
