CD review: Emma Sweeney Pangea (Sweeney) Emma Sweeney: Pangea (Sweeney)

Emma Sweeney

Pangea

(Sweeney)

Manchester's Irish music scene has produced some formidable talents (this album's producer, piper, flautist and whistle player Michael McGoldrick chief among them), and Emma Sweeney may yet eclipse them all. A fiddler of exceptional poise, Sweeney opens this debut album with Jimmy McHugh's Flooded Road To Glenties with a sweetness of tone allied to judicious use of rougher-edged bow strokes.
