How do you pronounce this band's name?

With an upwards inflection at the end or a wee singsong dip in the middle? Either way, no questions need to be asked about this Dundee trio's immediate local influences: their 10-track debut joins that tuneful Scottish indie rock battalion led by fellow Taysiders, The View.

Their basic rock'n'roll set-up was supplemented in the studio by guitar parts by Stevie Anderson (once of The Law, now of Anderson McGinty Webster Ward and Fisher), but it's the gruff, charismatic vocals of Daniel Quinn that are to the fore, with superb rhythm section playing by drummer Scott Masterton and bassist Michael Duncan (listen to them let fly on That Spark).So, no pretensions, no fancy keyboards, no goal other than to get fists in the air and a mosh bouncing down the front of the stage. If that suggests Songs For Adverts is the scotch pie of our country's musical menu, that's not a bad thing. Countless wannabes have tried to follow in The View's cheeky footsteps in past years, but Dave? are among the few who pull it off: strong songwriting charged up by the stroppy exuberance of youth.
