John Hiatt, Queen's Hall, Edinburgh

Twenty-seven years after he wrote it, John Hiatt told any songwriters present, BB King and Eric Clapton came along and recorded Riding with the King.

The moral: don't give up; you never know what gold you're sitting on.

Hiatt has been producing songs of various precious metal grades since the 1970s and as this blast through his catalogue confirmed, he's a master craftsman of extraordinary consistency.
