It's the place where the sundayheraldband have been preparing for their big performance at T in the Park this Saturday [July 7] – and from today it's getting bigger.

Glasgow Music Studios, where the sundayheraldband have been rehearsing since April, today unveil a new rehearsal space. The studios, based in the Merchant City, are made up of purpose-built pods that bands can use to rehearse or record. Such has been their success that they are expanding with a fourth pod.

Lynne Howard, director of Glasgow Music Studios, said the pods were entirely different from the more traditional studio: "Normally, studios are big rooms but ours are self-contained, modular pods," she said. "They're from Italy and are designed to spec. I had a big space under the arches and the sound was bouncing all over the place, so we built the pods."The music scene in Glasgow is vibrant," she added. "There are people doing all kinds of music and because the rooms are flexible, it means they can suit anything from a full rock, heavy metal band to a classical opera singer."As well as rehearsing and recording, musicians can use the pods to take lessons in guitar, drums, DJ-ing and singing: the studio has a big team of music teachers.The studios have been going for two years and in the longer term, Lynne has ambitions to spread the brand to other Scottish cities. In the meantime, she hopes the new pod will help meet the growing demand in Glasgow."Technological advances have made it easier to make music in terms of recording at home, but I don't think that's negative for the studios because it makes people keener to come down and do a proper studio recording," she says."I also think that in the recession music gives people something to turn to.
