Superstar DJ Calvin Harris has pulled out of tomorrow night's MTV awards.

The performer has said he is too ill to appear at the huge Hydro event tomorrow night.

He tweeted: "No EMAs for me this weekend. Got some heart problems. Heading home to see if it can be fixed."

Due to Calvin pulling out of the music awards John Newman is now understood to be no longer performing at the event either.

A spokesperson for the event organisers said: "It's with deep regret that Calvin Harris will not be able to perform at the 2014 MTV EMA this weekend due to illness.

"He sends his sincere apologies to all his fans."

MTV also confirmed today that fifteen-time Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer Alicia Keys is set to perform at the event tomorrow night.

The special performance will take place during a viewing party at the iconic O2 Academy Glasgow and be beamed live into the nearby SSE Hydro where the award ceremony is taking place.

The event will broadcast live to MTV channels worldwide tomorrow from 9pm.

Alicia said: "I am crazy excited to perform on the global stage of the EMA, and for my song to be nominated for Best Song with a message.

"'We Are Here' is a 21st century peace movement that believes if we all stand together and join our voices we can create a kinder world for everyone."

DJ and producer Afrojack, David "The Hoff" Hasselhoff, international supermodel Jourdan Dunn and WWE divas and stars of hit reality series Total Divas Brie and Nikki Bella were also confirmed today as attending the ecent.

Global hip hop superstar Nicki Minaj is hosting.

And there will be performances from U2, Enrique Iglesias,Charli XCX, Kiesza, Royal Blood, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran and Nicki Minaj.

British rock legend Ozzy Osbourne will be honoured with the Global Icon Award and will be in Glasgow to accept his award.
