The Opus 50 Piano Trio in A Minor of Tchaikovsky is a mighty elegaic work, and it takes up the second half of the programme of Benedetti's Silver Violin Tour, its demanding adjustments of tempi and tone colour realised in sparkling detail by the violinist, her German cellist partner Leonard Elschenbroich and Russian pianist Alexei Grynyuk. Benedetti acknowledged afterwards that any performance of it was "draining".
