Away from the relative safety of a home crowd – with all the self-congratulation, the nepotism, the preferential treatment – how well is Scotland's contemporary music actually received overseas?

Extremely well, as it happens, although I suppose it depends on where you go.

I've been lucky enough to witness many of Scotland's breakthrough acts conquer foreign turf on various occasions in recent times. Whether it be Franz Ferdinand at South By South West in Austin, Texas; Django Django at Transmusicales in Rennes, France; We Were Promised Jetpacks at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavik, or Biffy Clyro at Slottsfjell in Norway, it's always fascinating to see this kind of cultural exchange at work.
