Sally Magnusson's new book Where Memories Go is a loving, yet often heartbreaking memoir of her mother Mamie's long struggle with dementia. It's the story of a vibrant woman full of life - one of Scotland's best-loved journalists in the 1960s - who has her memories, her love of words and even her place in the world stripped from her, while her daughters try to look after her even when she struggles to recognise them. This adaptation - read by Sally Magnusson herself - is, inevitably, full of pain and grief. But now and again the woman Mamie was still peeks through. And those moments shine like breaks in the battle.
