SIX years they've been gigging around and I still have a grudging admiration for a band that declares its intent so boldy and succinctly in its name.

Scouting For Girls, known most widely for their stomp-pop hit She's So Lovely, have just released a third album, The Light Between Us, and are taking it for a wee tour.

Despite the pretty name, the album is more of the same: shouty beer songs executed with more enthusiasm than skill and still clunky with deadening lyrics. Witness the song 1+1: "I never wanted to forget that night we had/Dinner, dancing, drinks, and then back to my pad."

But the audience are not there for Tennyson, they are there for a good old romp and a good old romp is given. Singer Roy Stride, fronting the Harrow trio, makes a noble effort at high-energy, relentlessly up showmanship, nipping between keyboard and a glamorous white baby grand. He executes their pop-rock with style, though the vocals of the backing singer are less reliable. "Jump" yells Stride, as my eye scans for a nearby cliff. He finishes the set with a heartfelt thanks to the audience: "our fourth member". Oh dear, we're all responsible for this. HH
