Secret Architecture, Perth Theatre

It's good to know that Fraser Campbell is educating New Yorkers in Scottish social etiquette.

The Perth-born saxophonist's band from the Big Apple, Secret Architecture has a strong and stylistically varied repertoire. But one of the real stand-outs on this homecoming appearance for Campbell, both nominally and content-wise, was Are Ye Dancin', Cos Ah'm Askin', wherein that ballroom ritual was imbued with a soundtrack that sounded as if Thelonious Monk had been given the composer-in-residence gig with a New Orleans marching band. Its melody demanded that you hum along while its rhythm invited, if not quite massed bopping, then some involuntary bum wiggling.
