At one time the gents reunited on this disc – Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and, um, David Marks – had several surfin' combos on the strip, trading to a greater or lesser extent on the old sound and name. For this 50th anniversary release, however, the hatchet is invisibly buried in the dunes, the harmonies are ascloseasthis, and the production (Wilson, with Joe Thomas making a significant input, including roping in his chum Jon Bon Jovi to co-write the closing, elegaic Summer's Gone) is crisply classic.
