THE Cribs have come a long way since being formed in 2001 as a recording project at the Jarman brothers' analogue Springtime Studios.

Since signing to Wichita two years later, the Wakefield trio have had many a name in the business only too happy to help, with Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos taking to the production helm in 2006, and collaborations with Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, Edwyn Collins of Orange Juice, and ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who actually joined the band for a short while, featuring on fourth album Ignore The Ignorant.

After taking some time out after touring duties, the band has returned, minus Marr, with fifth offering, the boldly titled long player In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull. It is chock-full of lo-fi indie-rock delights, 90s Britpop mixed in with the early noughties revival of indie-punk from bands such as the Libertines and the Strokes.

Stand out tracks are shouty energetic opener Glitters Like Gold, the cool current single Come On Be A No-one and the punk Chi-Town. Although missing Marr's stardust, this latest offering from the brothers Jarman doesn't disappoint, proving the Cribs are still a family affair.
