I'm not sure Scottish music fans fully appreciate what we have in The View.

Maybe it'll take a Best Of compilation before they're given respect as purveyors of some of the best tunes we've heard up here since the turn of the century. From Wasted Little DJs and Superstar Tradesmen, through Grace and 5Rebbeccas, to the rollicking Caledonian surf-pop of latest single How Long, writers Kyle Falconer and Kieren Webster have consistently hit the high-water mark with equal amounts of melodic craft and laddish swagger.

That, for those who are counting, makes four albums in five years from a quartet of young men barely into their mid-twenties. Those albums aren't stuffed with filler either: twin senses of humour and adventure have often gone hand in hand as the Dundonians have entertained themselves with unlikely styles among the more solid indie staples.

Cheeky For A Reason doesn't stray far from home base, however, and is guilty of hiding behind the lovable-rogue facade of its title. No real surprises, then, from an album that's aimed squarely at the existing fanbase; in this case, however, more of the same might just be exactly what we need.
