HAVING played Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee a mere month ago, Hamilton Park (that is, the Racecourse) may have been a bit of a come-down for Sir Tom Jones, as he followed in the footsteps of Westlife, Dannii Minogue and more reality TV stars than you can possibly remember (Liberty X, anyone?).
The rain stayed away – for the start of the gig at least. "I'd like to say I'm glad to be here," boomed Jones's distinct Welsh lilt; but it's telling that the sentiment never actually followed.
