This statement is not intended to encourage Tom Odell into a dalliance with a transsexual prostitute, but listening to Walk On The Wild Side playing over the PA before the singer appeared contrasted starkly with his later performance.

The winner of the BRIT Critics Choice award previously lifted by the likes of Emeli Sande will certainly shift some records, but this performance was safe in the extreme, lacking any lyrical bite.
Odell's piano-heavy pop offered up low-key beginnings and hushed vocals before repeatedly clattering into easy-going melody after a couple of minutes. It was as if Lionel Ritchie was drafted in to front Starsailor, and while the 20-year-old already has a grasp of melody, he rarely did anything interesting with it. Halfway through he declared that matters were going to become more raucous, but the songs merely switched shade in the manner of replacing black wallpaper with grey.
