Who's Funniest?

The organisation for the promotion of comedy, Funny's Funny, is hosting its second Female Comedian of the Year competition, which will include a run of shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, workshops for participants, and showcases across the UK and in Ireland. This year's event is being run by comedians including Kate Smurthwaite, Iszi Lawrence, David Mulholland and Tony Cowards and the final will be held in London in July. Last year's Female Comedian of the Year competition had 250 entrants, with the support of several comedy clubs.

Never mind the ...

Punk band Buzzcocks have been added to the line-up for the ninth Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival in Beauly, Inverness-shire, on August 3 and 4. The band, known for songs such as Ever Fallen In Love and Harmony In My Head, will headline the Hothouse stage on the Friday night. It has also been announced that US soul and rock band Vintage Trouble will play Belladrum for the second year running. Other acts added to the bill include New York singer-songwriter Willy Mason and soul singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas.

Refugee Week

The Scottish Refugee Council and British Red Cross have announced details of their concert to launch Refugee Week Scotland 2012, on June 18 at Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket. The concert will be curated by King Creosote (pictured), who will perform a solo set and will also be accompanied by some special guests. His set will include songs from his latest album, Diamond Mine, as well as some old favourites. The Pictish Trail will be performing songs from his forthcoming album, Secret Soundz Vol. 2. All proceeds will go to Scottish Refugee Council and British Red Cross.
